Interpersonal Communication Analysis Of Children and Parents Divorce

In this study, the authors analyzed the interpersonal communication of children and parents who experienced divorce. The purpose of this study was to determine the forms of interpersonal communication between children and parents who experience divorce and the perspectives of children whose parents experience divorce. The research study is a teenager named Lily who experienced a divorce from her parents when she was only ten years old. This research is a qualitative research using narrative method. Data collection techniques were carried out by interviewing participants in depth regarding their life history. The results of this study are that it is known that the form of interpersonal communication that occurs between children and divorced parents is that parents are not open about divorce with children, children do not feel empathy for both parents, children still perceive the divorce of their parents positively, parents continue to support education and mental health, and communication with children becomes smooth after the child is an adult. From these points it can be concluded that communication and openness are the keys to children's mental health, divorce affects the mental state of children and good communication makes children learn the meaning of letting go in divorce.
